Studio insurance

Studio insurance: coverage for content studios and production work.

The short answer

Studio insurance from CreatorSure covers the content your studio makes for brands, creators and clients. Media liability pays for your defense when someone says a video, campaign or post defamed them, used their work or showed them without permission. Fight Back helps pay for a lawyer when someone uses your studio's work without paying.

Your studio ships content every week. Content studio insurance covers every piece of it.

What it covers

What studio insurance covers

Two halves, one quote. Media liability for when someone comes after you. Fight Back for when you need to go after them.

  • Claims over branded content, ads and social video you produce
  • Copyright claims over music, stock, fonts and footage
  • Privacy and likeness claims from talent and people on camera
  • Claims from clients over projects and deliverables
  • Fight Back for unauthorized use of studio work

The risks

Risks content studios face

  • Volume. Many clients, many deliverables, many chances for a claim.
  • Brand claims. Product and comparison claims you put on screen.
  • Talent and likeness. Usage that goes past what the release allows.
  • Stock and AI assets. Images, music and footage with unclear rights.
  • Creator collabs. Content you make with creators for a brand. Record music? SongSure, our music side, covers recording studios.

Fight Back

Fight Back for unauthorized use of studio work

Most insurance waits for you to get sued. Fight Back helps pay for takedowns, demand letters and a lawyer to go after people who take your work. It's for theft you find after your policy starts.

Stolen creative

Your work copied by another studio or agency.

Client overuse

A client running content past the license.

Reposted as someone else's

Your videos used by other accounts as their own.

Unpaid work

A client using deliverables and refusing to pay.

Proof of insurance

Proof of insurance for clients and brands

Brands, agencies, platforms and talent managers ask studios for certificates before work starts. Once you're covered, CreatorSure sends one to anyone who needs it.

General liability

General liability gaps for studios

General liability, or GL, is the policy lots of small businesses buy. One part of it, Coverage B, is for personal and advertising injury. For an ordinary business, like a plumber, that part typically covers defamation claims.

Making content for clients is advertising and publishing work, so that part is usually limited or excluded for studios. This is called the media exclusion, and GL doesn't address claims over your content the way media liability does.

CreatorSure covers studio equipment and professional E&O for your client services too (ask for them on your quote). Keep GL for physical accidents (CreatorSure covers general liability too and will place it alongside your media liability), and add media liability for your content.

Cost

Studio insurance cost

There's no flat price, and we won't guess at one here. Your studio insurance cost depends on your revenue, number of clients, the kind of content you make, the brands and industries you work with, the limits contracts require, and your claims history.

CreatorSure builds the quote around you, so you're not paying for extras you don't need. See what moves the price, then request a quote for a real number.

FAQ

Studio insurance FAQ

Do content studios need insurance?

Yes. Clients often require media liability, and every piece you ship is content someone can object to. Media liability covers those claims.

How much does studio insurance cost?

It depends on your revenue, clients, content and the limits you need. CreatorSure tailors a quote to your studio. Request one to get your number.

Is studio liability insurance the same as media liability?

Studio liability can mean general liability for your space, which covers physical accidents. Media liability covers claims over your content. CreatorSure covers both.

Do you cover recording studios?

Yes. SongSure, our music side and the same company as CreatorSure, covers recording studios.
